Let us make President Muhammadu Buhari a saint

Make President Muhammadu Buhari a saint
President Muhammadu Buhari

Make him a Saint!

Even though he joined others in apologizing all over the place for offences they may or may not have committed against those they ruled over for eight years. Governors and presidents who will soon stop being governors and presidents on May 29 are falling over themselves in pretended contrition and repentance for their misbehaviour while in office. Like him, they never truly believed that this day would come when they would suddenly realize that there is after all, nothing special about them. They are beginning to realize that they were not gods all these eight years.

Make him a saint!

Even though the house he was watching over for eight years is on fire, make him a saint. It does not matter that when he took over the house from former President Goodluck Jonathan, the fire was only smoudering, kept in that state by the fire retardants deployed by Jonathan. Now, under President Buhari’s watch, the fire has become a blaze, burning everything on its path. Still, make him a saint.

Make him a saint!

Even though they say that he made promises that he did not keep. They say that he promised change and did not deliver. But he did. The only thing was that he was not asked what kind of change – whether good change or bad change. He is a promise keeper. Did the price of a bag of rice and other foodstuffs and items not radically change under his leadership? Did the rate of inflation not rise consistently over the years? Did our national debt and borrowings not change as the years went by? What of the poverty level, VAT, stamp duty, fuel price, the Second Naija Bridge, minimum wage, etc.?  Did the new trains built with Chinese money not run, at least for some time before those dastardly terrorists put a stop to their movements? He promised change and we got it in doses of mostly bad.

Even though many more Nigerians have died under his administration through acts of violence, many of them losing their villages to the infernal marauders. Even though under his government, bandits were created, Fulani herdsmen joined the fray, and unknown gunmen emerged from the shadows, all of them with the intent of sharing the limelight with the former landlords of Nigeria terror, Boko-Haram.

Let him be made a saint!

Even though under him, corruption became giddy with excitement at the new lease of life it had under President Muhammadu Buhari. For years under the PDP, it had thrived, but sometimes, under some levels of restraints. Now under Buhari’s APC, corruption truly understands the full meaning of acting in absolute freedom. It has become uncontrollably untramelled. A representative example is the miraculous feeding of school children in the country during Covid 19 even when the students were not in school. The theft of crude oil in Nigeria’s waters in the presence of security and government officials is well known.

Make him a saint!

In spite of organizing an election that only he, his Goebellian minister, Lai Muhammed, the garrulous and seemingly intellectually vacuous minister of state in the ministry of labour and erstwhile human rights and civil society activist impostor, Festus Keyamo, and their army of fraudulent election beneficiaries across different political parties, for declaring the 2023 elections as the best in the history of Nigeria. Give Maurice Iwu a garland and apologize to him for declaring him perfidious and an outcast for an election organized by him in 2003/2007 that has now proven to be not so bad in comparison to Mahmoud’s elections – despite late Yar Adua’s apology.

Make President Muhammadu Buhari a saint!

After all, he was not aware of all the shenanigans that took place under his administration. He was not aware of the killings, of the corruption, and the economic sabotage. He was just a small innocent fish in the midst of barracudas.

Make him a saint!

Because he has performed the miracle of being a virgin in a maternity ward. He was the only pious person in the midst of the impious, the only man of integrity surrounded by scavengers, mercenaries, and unworthy characters in the government he headed. His wholesomeness, holiness, and piety have now somehow put scriptural definitiveness to the sword;

“Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.”

Despite the unsavory and unwholesome characters that straddled his administration for eight years, his integrity has been kept intact. The man who lay down with dogs has gotten up without fleas. What a miracle.

Make him a saint!

Even if people are saying that he took Nigeria from the top of the sewage where he met her, and dragged her straight into the gutter after eight years of his government.

He still deserves to be made a saint.
