Manchester United young midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo has disclosed that his parents are from West African country, Ghana.

The 18-year-old made this known, while expressing joy over his call up into the England squad for the March international friendly against Brazil and Belgium by the Three Lions manager, Gareth Southgate.

England will take on Brazil on Saturday night at Wembley in a friendly as they get ready for the Euro 2024 this summer and Mainoo could be set for his first England cap.

Speaking to the media ahead of the encounter, the Red Devils’ midfielder said he was shocked to be included in England’s first-team, adding that his family are all buzzing.

Mainoo said: “It’s been a pretty mad couple of days. Getting down here and realising that I was with the first-team was amazing. I was shocked and happy – and it’s been a whirlwind of emotions.”

He added: “But being at England is an amazing opportunity and I’m enjoying it so far. I think that is the end goal for the season, to get into that squad [for the Euros].

“Both [my] parents are Ghanaians and my whole childhood was football, really. It is just been football, football, football and I have enjoyed every second of it.”
