Afrobeats singer and songwriter Lekan Osifeso Junior, popularly known as Lojay, has disclosed that his aspiration to reach the same heights as music icons Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy—collectively known as the ‘Big 3’—stopped him from womanising.

He made the confession recently while appearing as a guest on the latest episode of the I Said What I Said podcast.

According to the ‘Monalisa’ crooner, he initially believed that being a pop star was an opportunity to womanise.

However, he added that his perspective changed after he realised that maintaining a long and successful career required a high level of discipline.

“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere. But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline.”

He continued: “I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls.”

The 29-year-old artist went on to reveal that one of his greatest culture shocks in the industry was discovering that the lifestyles that enticed him as an underground artist were not as appealing once he entered the mainstream.

He claimed there is far more discipline in the music industry than many assume, stressing that musicians must be mindful of their words and actions to protect their reputations.

Finally, he admitted that his own personality helped him remain more disciplined than most of his colleagues in terms of both womanising and living an extravagant lifestyle.
