Finally, Facebook Messenger users can now retract messages they send to friends.

On Tuesday, Facebook rolls out globally “Remove for Everyone” feature that helps users pull back typos, poor choices, embarrassing thoughts or any other messages.

For up to ten minutes, after sending a Facebook message, the sender can tap on it and they will find that the delete button has been replaced by “remove for you,” but there is now a “remove for everyone” option that pulls the message from recipient’s inbox.

Like in WhatsApp, there will be an alert that the sender has removed a message. The removed message would be retained by Facebook for a few more minutes to see if there would be a report about it.

In 2018, TechCrunch reported that Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg’s messages were retracted from recipient’s inboxes, including non-Facebook staff, showing no traces.

Facebook then issued a message saying it did so for security reasons but promised to make the feature available to users.

We have discussed this feature several times . . . We will now be making a broader delete message feature available. This may take some time. And until this feature is ready, we will no longer be deleting any executives’ messages. We should have done this sooner — and we’re sorry that we did not,” Facebook said in the message.
