Lamido insists Wike was not short changed by PDP

Lamido also said Wike’s stance politically during the 2023 elections will not cost PDP votes in Rivers, because he does not have monopoly over people

Former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has said that River State governor, Nyesom Wike was not short changed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the party’s convention, as he argued the party followed the laid down rules.

He also claimed that nobody offended him, noting that it was the PDP convention that produced Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.

Lamido made this known while commenting on the feud between Atiku and Wike during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

He said, “This party like all parties in Nigeria has its constitution, norms and guidelines and if you look at the procedure under the PDP right from counsellorship to chairmanship to the member House of Assembly, the governor, National Assembly, there are specified rules and regulations; and it is the congresses which produce these officers at all levels.

“People contest for counsellorship; some win, some lose.  The same with chairmanship and governorship. So what is the big deal about Wike? To me who offended Wike? Who offended him? There is no issue here. There was convention of the party in Abuja where Wike by his own testimony said it was credible; it was transparent. So what is the big deal here? Who offended who there? I want to know first because why is Wike the issue here.

“The convention produced a candidate who won the primary. If there is any offence it was the convention which offended Wike not Atiku, nor the party chairman.”

Lamido also clapped back at the governor, stating that Wike doesn’t have a monopoly over the Rivers electorate.

According to him, the Rivers State governor’s stance politically during the 2023 elections will not cost the party votes in Rivers, noting that the governor does not have a monopoly over the people

Lamido said, ” Wike is an individual, I don’t think because he is a governor there he has control and monopoly over the peoples of Rivers,” he said.

“He hasn’t got it. Rivers people are also PDP in their own right. They were there in 1999 when he joined. They were there when he was council chairman.

“Therefore, because he’s a governor, he now thinks he is their emperor, it can’t work. There is a Wike in every part of Nigeria who is a governor.”
