Lagos police trying to locate family of 2-year-old boy abandoned at dumpsite, a recurring phenomenon
A two-year-old boy (identity unknown) a Good Samaritan found at a dumpsite in the Iganmu axis of Lagos is in the custody of the police who are trying to locate his family.
State Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed in a post on X that the baby was found on Monday night.
The child was found at Sari Iganmu rubbish dump and taken to a police station, and the police are seeking public assistance in locating his family.
“Found child: This boy of about two years old was found last night at the Sari Iganmu dump site by a Good Samaritan and brought to the station. Kindly share to enable him to reunite with his family,” Hundeyin wrote.
The PUNCH reports that a similar incident occurred in April 2023 when a baby girl, believed to be only a-day-old, was abandoned by the roadside near a church in Ikorodu Council Area of Lagos.
An unknown resident, who was on her way to a store, heard the baby crying helplessly in the early hours of the morning and took the child to the Ikorodu General Hospital for medical treatment.
On April 18 this year, another report detailed how a one-day-old baby boy abandoned in a polythene bag on Alhaji Masha Road, Surulere, Lagos, was rescued by police and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
