Kwara inaugurates panel for 50th anniversary celebration

Kwara State government has set up a committee of 31 members to organisethe 50th anniversary celebration of the creation of the state in May this year.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Isiaka Gold, urged the committee members to package an anniversary worthy of Kwara, one of the 12 states the Yakubu Gowon regime created in May 1967 from the then three regions – North, West, and East.

Gold charged the committee to ensure the 50th anniversary is memorable but introspective, an opportunity to celebrate Kwara and thank the Almighty God for bringing the state thus far.

He noted that the celebration will also take stock of infrastructure development and to chart a new course to further enhance development.

He lauded the achievements of the founding fathers, leaders and past governors who they provided the building blocks for lasting developmental legacies in the state.

Apart for Gold, who chairs the committee, other members includeAbdulGaniyuOpeloyeru (director of political affairs as secretary); LanreSagaya (chief executive officer of YOLAs Consult); Yusuf AbdulWahab (chief of staff); KayodeAdeyemi (senior special assistant, Government House).

Musa Yeketi (commissioner for education); AroYahaya (commissioner for works and transport); AdemolaBanu (commissioner for finance); Mahmud Ajeigbe (commissioner for information and communication).

They also include members of the State House of Assembly – AbdulRafiuAbdulRahman, KamaldeenFagbemi, Mohammed Ahmed, and MuyideenAkorede (SSA, media and communication).

SakaBabatunde (SSA youth empowerment); Femi Adebayo (SA culture and Tourism);AdekanyeOlabode (state All Progressives Congress secretary); IsiakaDanmeromun (TIC chairman, Ilorin South); AbdulRafiuAyinla (permanent secretary, general services); and David Adesina (permanent secretary, political).
