Kwara Customs seizes goods of N204.7m duty paid value in 9 weeks

Kwara Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service has made seizures of various contrabands with total duty paid value (DPV) of 204, 763, 439.00 in the last nine weeks.
Acting Area Controller of the command, Najeem Ogundeyi, who briefed newsmen of the achievement in Ilorin, said it was recorded between March and the first week of May.
He said the seizure was made during the interception by the command across the key smuggling flashpoints within the state and adjourning areas
Ogundeyi mentioned the flashpoint areas to include Bukuro axis, Gutumi and Sikira axis , Okuta axis, Boriya Axis, Tewu and Bero axis, Sango and Oke-Oyi road, Alapa axis, Malete and Bani axis, Offa and Idofian road, Lagos-Ilorin express way and Eyenkorin axis
“These areas have remained under closed watch due to their strategic use by smugglers attempting illegal trade and smuggling of uncostoms goods both in and out of the country,” he stated.
The custom boss highlighted the seizure recorded to include 150 bags of 50 kg perboiled rice each with DVP of N52, 447 500.00, 70 pieces of second hand tyres with DVP of N1, 400,000.00, 41, Jerry cans of vegetable oil with DVP of N27, 170,000.00.
He said the seizure also include 3, 697 packages of Macaroni pasta with DVP of N110,910,000.00, 237 Jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) of 25litres each with DVP of N2, 370,000.00 and 19 Jerry cans of 35 litres of corrosive oxider ch micals with DPV ogN792, 439.00.
Ogundeyi also disclosed seizure of cannabis of 49.5kg and 376kg of Tramadol.
He assured that “under the leadership of the Comptroller-General ofCustoms, the service remains resolute in deploying proactive and intelligent-driven strategies to secure our borders and protection of the nation’s economy.”
