Confirming his release, Nasarawa Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Ramhan Nansel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia that the commissioner regained his freedom around 6:00pm on Friday and was reunited with his family.

Nansel said the victim was also taken to a hospital for medical examination.

The police spokesperson however said no suspect has been arrested in connection with the abduction, but said the police would not relent until the perpetrators are arrested.

Nansel explained that the Nasarawa commissioner was released due to sustained pressure from the combined team of security agencies.

He said that the police command was not aware if any ransom was paid before the release of the commissioner.

TheNiche reported earlier that a family source, who preferred anonymity, said the kidnappers made their demand known on Tuesday.

The source said the kidnappers of the Nasarawa commissioner, who called around 4:30 pm through one of the victim’s family members, vowed they won’t take anything less than N100 million for his release.

“Actually, they called this evening at about 4:30 pm and demanded for N100 million and when the family offered N3.5 million, they switched off the phone that they are not serious and insisted that anything less than a N100 million, they should forget it. They dialed the number again and it was not reachable,” the source said.
