Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has admitted she was initially ashamed of having a child out of wedlock.
She shared this during a candid interview with Tope Olowoniyan, where she also discussed her struggles as a single mother.
According to the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality star, she was traumatised to discover she was going to have a child without being married, especially as her own mother had also had her out of wedlock.
The movie star recalled fearing that the trend could become a family pattern that might eventually extend to her daughter.
“I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock,” she said. “I thought I was going to get married because I was engaged at the time, but we never got married.”

Speaking during the chat, Aiyeola added, “It was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I was about to become one; I feared my child might suffer the same fate.”
The 40-year-old actress noted that her family’s economic situation at the time made the prospect of having a baby feel unbearable.
She also disclosed that she struggled with breastfeeding her daughter initially, as she found it difficult to accept her reality.
However, Aiyeola added that as time passed, she began to accept her situation and cherish her daughter, regardless of the circumstances surrounding her birth.
Looking back now, she said she is grateful for her daughter and the lessons she has gained from the experience.
