Just like APC, Edo State’s PDP holds parallel governorship primary

Edo PDP”s parallel primary election was won by the state’s Deputy Gov, Philip Shaibu who got over 301 votes

Another drama has unfolded in Edo State after the Deputy Governor of the  State, Philip Shaibu, emerged as the winner of a factional Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship
primary election.

Shaibu won the parallel primary election with over 301 votes.

Meanwhile, the Governor Godwin Obaseki faction of the party is yet to commence its own election.

Ten aspirants were given passes to vie for the governorship ticket of the PDP in the primary. They are Omosede Igbinedion; former chairman Edo State APC, Anselm Ojezua; former chairperson of Esan West Local Government Area, Felix Akhabue; Felix Akhabue, former managing director of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo; Deputy Governor Shaibu; Arthur Esene, former House of Representatives members, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu and Umoru Hadizat.

At least 576 delegates will decide the fate of the 10 aspirants at the primaries which will be held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin and the exercise will be conducted by an electoral committee chaired by Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; with Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori of Delta as co-chairman.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the main opposition party in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) held several governorship primaries which produced several candidates a few days ago.

The party later declared the result of the election inconclusive and replaced Governor  Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who supervised the exercise with his Cross River counterpart, Governor Bassey Otu.
