“Salele changed tactics and stopped visiting my daughter but continued calling her on the phone to meet him at appointed places” – prospective mother-in-law.

Kaduna Sharia Court Judge Salisu Abubakar-Tureta is keen for two lovers, Salisu Salele and Bilkisu Lawal, to marry and has offered to pay the N100,000 bride price upon Salele’s profession of love for Bilkisu but “I don’t have dowry.”

The judge told him to go and think about the offer and give feedback to the court about his decision on 6 September, the adjourned date of his case.

Bilikisu’s mother, Rayila Lawal, sued Salele and asked the court to compel him to marry her daughter if he truly loves her or to leave her if he is not ready for marriage.

“We live in the same area and he has been coming to meet my daughter without our consent as her parents.

“I met his mother to notify her about the issue and she said her son was not ready for marriage,” Lawal recounted to the court on Wednesday.

“Salele changed tactics and stopped visiting my daughter but continued calling her on the phone to meet him at appointed places.

“I don’t want him to spoil the good upbringing I gave my daughter over the years, hence my decision to bring him to court.”

Lawal reiterated she would give Bilkisu in marriage if Salele agrees to marry her.

I love Bilkisu, says Salele

Salele said he loves Bilkisu but would not be ready for marriage until two years’ time, per reporting by Vanguard.

“I am an undergraduate studying in one of the federal universities and will not want to be distracted by marriage.

“Besides, I don’t have dowry and I am still living with my parents,’’ he told the court.

Abubakar-Tureta offered to pay the N100,000 dowry for Salele to marry Bilkisu and told him to go and think about it.
