Insecurity: Army organise study to sharpen personnel intellect

-

The 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar, on Wedneday organised a three-day study period to sharpen its personnel’s intellect and alertness on security issues in their Area of Responsibility (AoR).

Commander of the brigade, Brig.-Gen. Sani Mohammed, who declared programme open, said it was in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s mission to keep officers abreast of trending global security issues.

Mohammed said that this could be done through constant learning to enable them adapt to the country’s security situation.

The theme of the study is, “Meeting the Contemporary Security Challenges’’ which the commander described as timely in view of the current security challenges.

“Nigeria is currently challenged from different flanks. It calls for a high level of preparedness by soldiers. We have the Boko Haram insurgency which we have decimated.

“We have the challenge of Biafra movement, piracy, kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, ethno-religious challenge and others. All these are threat to the lives of Nigerians.

“We hope that this conference will enhance our responsive alertness and constantly keep us up to our constitutional role of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity always,’’ he said.

Rear Adm. Atiku Abdulkadir, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, who was represented by Commodore Ime Ekpa, urged the personnel to be prepared for the challenges ahead.

Abdulkadir described the current security challenges in the country as a concern for all, hence the need to brainstorm on new tactics to defeat insurgency.
