Ace Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has explained why she opted for surrogacy instead of giving birth to her daughter herself
She justified the decision during the ongoing season 3 of the ‘Young Famous and African’ reality show.
The thespian during an interaction with her co-stars, also spoke about her child’s paternity, adding that she had issues carrying pregnancies
It all started when one of her colleagues of the show, Nadia asked: “Do you have a kid?
Responding to question Ini Edo: “Yes, a baby girl.”
Nadia then probed further: “Are you married?”
Reacting to the question on her marital status, she said: “ I’m not married.”
Nadia further asked if she is still dating her daughter’s dad and she replied, “No I am not.”

When asked if her daughter’s dad is still alive, Ini Edo said: “He is not dead. He does not have anything to do with us. We are just two people. Me and my daughter.
“I do not really want to talk about my journey because it is personal. I’m raising my child alone. I went through surrogacy. There was no man in my life at the time I wanted to have a child, and there are different ways to go about that.
“I never thought I would have fertility issues. But I have had issues carrying pregnancies long term. When it looked like it wasn’t going to happen and I wasn’t getting younger, I said, ‘What are the options available?
“Then this option came up, so I took it. I am very happy with my decision.”
Speaking further, she explained that she had gone through IVF procedures to get pregnant and had 6 miscarriages before deciding to opt for surrogacy.
Ini Edo walked down the aisle with Nigerian-American businessman, Philip Ehiagwina in November 2008, but their union ended in divorce in 2014.
