Stakeholders in the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo have commended Monday’s peaceful conduct of local government congresses in the state, describing it as successful.

They took turns to speak on the exercise and came to a common conclusion that the successful ward and council delegates congresses will signal the hidden strength of the APC ahead of the 2019 election.

The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere commended the APC faithful for coming out en mass to exercise their civil right by voting their choice candidates for various positions at the local government level of the party administration.

He spoke to reporters at his country home, Lake-Malinda, Achi, Ezi-Mbieri, in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State.

Madumere described  the exercise free, fair and peaceful, saying he was giving credit to the party delegates.

His said: “The LGA congresses from the report I have received so far are gloriously successful. There has not been any case of violence as everyone seems to be interested in ensuring the party is re-invigorated for the task ahead. In Mbaitoli my local government, it was also very fair, free and peaceful. I commend everyone who participated and other party faithful across the twenty-seven local government for successful local government congresses. This is the change we promised. To make the electoral process open and all inclusive and not just the sole prerogative of those with executive powers.”

Also, the State Chairman of APC, Dr. Hillary Eke, described the exercise as a huge success, an outcome he said was a sign of good things to come.

On the torching of APC secretariat in Imo at the weekend leading to the postponement of the congress from Saturday to Monday, he insisted that the first suspects were agents of the state government.

Eke revealed that a certain aide to Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu had threatened to burn down the party secretariat if he did not change his stand on the  ward congresses in earlier held in Imo which he described as successful.

Senator Ifeanyi Araraume was also credited to have described the council congress as successful. His serving counterpart, Senator Ben Uwajumogu reported a similar experience from their Okigwe senatorial zone.

They were bought sighted addressing the APC delegates in the zone before the commencement of voting.

Speaking with TheNiche from Owerri, Eke said: “We have finished with the ward and local government congresses and I can report they were both successful. I am glad that we are now prepared for the state congress and to ensure that our party is strong enough to stand for election.

“There was no ugly incident anywhere known to me on the congresses held in the 27 local government areas of Imo. From Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu, the report of successful congress is the same and our party members are happy they elected their choice of leaders.

“Those who are kicking the congresses from the first one which is the ward are drowning men. And you know a drowning man will clutch at anything to survive and that is what is happening.

“The APC leadership has taken care of the wailers by putting in place an Appeal Panel that can look into genuine complaints. So, those who feel aggrieved will have the opportunity of having the panel listen to them and making suggestions on the way forward.”
