Armed men at the weekend invaded Lokoja Mountain, also called Mount Patti, in the Egbola area, along Agbaja Road in Lokoja Council of Kogi and kidnapped a number of worshipers during a prayer session, among them one Mary Gure.
The attack happened during a night vigil and the woman was said to have been rescued by men of the state vigilante services who got wind of the incident, mobilised to the scene, and confronted the perpetrators in a gun duel.
A source told Daily Trust that the attackers stormed the prayer ground and fired gunshots sporadically to instill fear in the worshippers before whisking them into the bush.
The rescued woman escaped amid the chaos.
“The vigilantes were mobilised quickly in response to the attack; and in the process, Gure was rescued. A search-and-rescue operation is ongoing to locate the remaining abducted faithful,” the source said.
