Ikefuna emerges 24th president of National Postgraduate Medical College

The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has announced the investiture of Professor Anthony Nnaemeka Ikefuna as its 24th President.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the College Registrar, Professor Temitope Esan.

According to the statement, Professor Ikefuna was elected at the College’s 137th Governing Board Meeting held on December 5, 2025. His investiture is scheduled to take place at the College premises on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Ikefuna, a distinguished paediatrician and academic, graduated from the University of Ibadan on a Federal Government scholarship. He later specialised in Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, and was appointed Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2011.

Within the College, he previously served as Vice President and held several strategic positions, including Chairman and Secretary of the Faculty of Paediatrics, Senate Member and Chief Examiner. He also chaired the Quality Assurance Committee, the Disciplinary Committee and the Senate Committee on Credentials and Fellowship Award.

The College stated that Ikefuna has been actively involved in coordinating examinations, accreditation visits, and mentoring fellows across its postgraduate programmes.

Beyond the College, he has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to medical textbooks and supervised over 70 Fellowship dissertations and numerous postgraduate theses. Several of his mentees now hold senior academic and professional positions, including professorships.

Ikefuna is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, a Foundation Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine.

The College congratulated Ikefuna and wished him a successful tenure as he assumes leadership of the institution.
