Ibom Air incident: NCAA quizzes crew members, Comfort Emanson

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched a formal investigation into the recent altercation between passenger Comfort Emanson and members of the Ibom Air cabin crew.
As part of the inquiry, NCAA officials on Wednesday met in Abuja with Julie Edwards, a crew member accused of playing a central role in the incident, alongside other staff directly involved.
The NCAA’s spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, disclosed the development in a post on his X account on Thursday.
He wrote: “Yesterday in Abuja, the NCAA team met with Julie Edwards and other members of the crew involved in the Comfort Emanson incident as part of investigations into that event.
“The NCAA’s directorates of Aviation Security, Operations, Licensing, and Training Standards, Legal, and Consumer Protection are collaborating to ensure a proper conclusion to this investigation.”

Achimugu also confirmed that Emanson had been scheduled to meet with NCAA investigators later on Thursday, noting: “She will be accompanied by her legal counsel during the session.”
The clash between Emanson and Ibom Air staff has dominated public discourse in recent weeks following the circulation of a video showing her being manhandled by airline officials.
She had boarded a flight from Uyo to Lagos where she allegedly attacked a flight attendant and confronted airport personnel. The confrontation led to her arraignment before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on criminal charges and her remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
Emanson was later released after the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, ordered Ibom Air to withdraw its petition against her.
Meanwhile, the NCAA has assured Nigerians that it remains committed to enforcing professionalism and safety standards across the aviation industry.
