IBD Dende: Nigerians demand action as video shows Customs officers begging an alleged smuggler not to beat up their colleague

Nigerians are demanding action from the government after a video emerged showing a man identified as IBD Dende threatening a Customs officer who intercepted his consignment of alleged smuggled goods.

A video posted by undercover journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, who also is the publisher of FIJ, shows a man believed to be IBD Dende threatening a Customs officer who allegedly seized his smuggled goods.

In the video, IBD Dende asked the officer, believed to be an Assistant Superintendent of Customs why he also didn’t intercept the four trailer-load of rice belonging to his boss at the Seme border.

Since the release of the video, IBD Dende has been a major trend on X, formerly Twitter, with thousands of reactions pouring from netizens.

Good governance activist, Aisha Yesufu, posted on her handle @AishaYesufu that: “We need people with courage in offices. People that will dismantle the criminal structures they have in place.

Kai! I can’t imagine myself as a customs boss, a smuggler put his hands on my officer because my officer was doing his job! Ha! I will be ready to lose my job on that matter.”
