Nigerian Afrobeats star and half of the defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, has responded to a fan asking him to retire from music due to his age.

It all began when a netizen, identified on X as @OloriOfOloris, urged the singer to consider retirement since he is approaching 50.

Quoting a clip of Peter’s music video, she wrote: “I don’t get why an almost 50 year old man is still singing like this. It’s okay to retire❤️.”

However, while defending the twin, popular media personality Do2dtun countered her argument, stressing that international artists such as Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé, and the Backstreet Boys are much older than Mr P but remain active.

Reacting to Do2dtun’s post, Peter noted that those urging him to quit music for age-related reasons are heartbroken fans of the defunct P-Square.

He went on to describe such critics as hypocrites who celebrate older musicians like Usher, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown, but demand his retirement despite him being younger.

He said: “After dem realize say all those narratives no hold water, dem come with another one: ‘Now he is too old to be singing and dancing.’

“Meanwhile, na the same people go celebrate and hype Usher, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown for doing exactly the same thing.”
