Key opposition figures across Nigeria’s political spectrum converged on the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday for the formal unveiling of a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) banner, in a strategic move aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Among the notable attendees were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. They were joined by former governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), along with Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, media entrepreneur and PDP stalwart Dele Momodu, and Labour Party Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe.

Also present were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha and retired Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

The coalition, which brings together elements from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political blocs, has chosen the ADC as its operational platform for the anticipated electoral battle.

Leading the coalition as interim national chairman is former Senate President David Mark, who recently exited the PDP. Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has been appointed interim national secretary.
