The England striker ended the season with two goals against Leicester City in his side’s 5-4 win, taking him to 30 in the league for the season, more than he has managed in his two previous golden boot winning seasons when he scored 25 and 29 respectively.
Kane said: “It’s nice to hit the 30-goal mark, for me that was always the target to improve on last year’s 29. Obviously, Mo [Salah] has done great this year, he deserves the golden boot and I’m looking forward to the competition again next year.
“I feel good. I felt good over the week. [Leicester] was a game where there was a lot more space, everyone is a lot more free, there was less pressure. We created a bit more so it was nice to get a couple of goals and finish the season strong.”
On Salah he said: “That’s what you want, at the highest level – you want competition. You want to be fighting for things and I think we’ve pushed each other. He broke the record for a 38 game season and I will try to do that next season.
Asked whether his rivalry could be like the annual Spanish Liga shoot-out between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Kane said: “Yes of course. For me it’s about doing it year after year. This is my fourth year now and it’s the first time I’ve got to 30 goals in the Premier League so know it’s about getting to 30 for the next two or three years. That’s the aim.
“I think it’s been a good year. As a team to get into the Champions League was important going into the new stadium. It’s not been easy, especially playing at Wembley. So for us it’s fantastic. The top six is so strong now, so competitive, so to finish in the top three for the third year in a row is important. For me, it’s another good year – more goals than last year. I feel stronger and fitter on the pitch. Hopefully I can continue that.”
