Paris Saint-Germain defender, Achraf Hakimi, has insisted he was not the one who pushed to leave La Liga giants, Real Madrid when he was at the club.
He made the clarification on Wednesday night during his post-match interview following PSG’s 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-final.
Goals from Ousmane Dembele, Goncalo Ramos and a brace for Fabian Ruiz ensured the Ligue 1 club secured a comprehensive victory and set up a showdown with West London club, Chelsea in the final.
Real Madrid sold Hakimi to Serie A side Inter Milan in 2020. He, however, spent just one season at San Siro before making a switch to PSG in 2021.
The Moroccan international has impressed since joining the Parisians four years ago, winning several trophies with the club, including the UEFA Champions League.
When asked why he left a big club like Real Madrid, Hakimi insisted it was the Spanish outfit that pushed him out.
Speaking (via TouchlineX) he said: “It wasn’t my decision. It was not me. They were the ones who decided to let me go.”
