A representative of the Guinness World Records (GWR) on Saturday tasted the world’s largest pot of jollof rice cooked by Hilda Baci and described it as “delicious”, even a day after the dish was prepared and despite the collapse of the cooking pot.
The tasting came after the weighing of the enormous pot, which broke under pressure, and the verdict reassured the crowd that the quality of the food remained uncompromised despite the pot’s mishap.
Hilda first rose to international fame after her record-breaking cooking marathon in 2023 and she has continued to use her celebrity platform to promote African cuisine, particularly Nigeria’s iconic jollof rice.
Her latest attempt at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos has been described as both a cultural showcase and a statement of national pride.
For many of her fans the declaration by the GWR representative is symbolic, reinforcing not just the taste of the dish but also the spirit of excellence behind it. The announcement was greeted with loud cheers, dancing, and renewed excitement at the venue.
All eyes now turned to the official GWR confirmation from its London headquarters as Hilda’s supporters hope Nigeria will once again make global culinary history.
