A pro-democracy group, Ebonyi Transparency and Accountability Network (ETAN), at the weekend threatened to institute legal action against some federal ministries, departments and agencies for what it called “lopsided job

recruitment carried out recently.”

The group claimed that the teeming unemployed Ebonyi indigenes were disadvantaged as their quota were usurped by non- Ebonyi State indigenes. The group gave the threat during its maiden media briefing in Abakaliki.

It said that it has already commissioned an enquiry into the recruitment by such MDAs.

“We intend to raise a petition and if necessary legal action against erring MDAs once the report is out”, said Eze Igwe, ETAN’s Pro-Term President.

Igwe also said that the group has written a protest letter to Ebonyi State government on the plight of Ebonyi students on scholarship who are stranded in the UK and called for urgent resolution to the issue. According to him, it would amount to wastage of millions of naira if the students don’t complete their studies as all the money spent over the years to fund them will be lost. The group also commended Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, on his infrastructural strides in the state especially in giving the state capital a face lift.

The president said that the group, which was formed in January this year, was a non-profit, advocacy and apolitical group of concerned Ebonyi professionals of proven accomplishments in their fields of endeavour who have come together to pool skills, experience and networks to contribute towards the development of the state.

Noting that Ebonyi ranks low in various socio-economic indices among the South East state, the group called on people of the state to join hands with government and other groups to lift the state.

“The pioneer members recognise that their is an urgent need to improve the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of the use of existing meagre resources while developing innovative and sustainable strategies for increasing state revenue to meet social and development objectives”, the group added.
