GPAAN demands tweaking of strategies to tackle insecurity

The Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria (GPAAN) has expressed deep dismay over the rising cases of insecurity in the country, regretting the spread and intensity in recent times.

A statement by the Guild signed by its President, Mr. Ayo Baje Oyoze, registered its concerns about the seemingly endless scourge that has continued to threaten the peace of the nation and safety of lives and property in many parts of the country.

More disturbing, as expressed in the statement, are the sustained cases of the canker across the country, despite the huge financial costs to the nation, and the invaluable sacrifices of the security agencies, aimed at arresting the menace over the years.

“Although it acknowledges the efforts to end the onslaught on citizens, it also asserts that the threat to the education system, teachers, safety of students, security of homes and the entire national life demands urgent and comprehensive review, tweaking of approach and strategies, and redrawing of the country’s entire security architecture to outclass the operations of the bandits, terrorists, and other malefactors troubling the nation.

“The Guild frowns at the loss of precious children, parents, teachers, clerics, security personnel, and other valuable professionals, maintaining that the situation has become too absurd, disruptive, and debilitating to be allowed to continue. While the government sustains the momentum of the fight to end the onslaught, the Guild calls for the prosecution of all those named as culprits with regard to the sponsorship of terrorism in the country.

“GPAAN also urges continued support by all relevant state and non-state actors to ensure that the country successfully resists and battles to overwhelm the presence and dastardly activities of criminal elements in the society. The drive for investment, image, and integrity of the country makes its footwork towards uprooting the menace more urgent than ever before,” the statement said.
