Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has aimed a dig at opposition leaders in the state, saying “elections are not won on social media”.

He said this on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting after the All Progressives Congress (APC) won two state constituencies and a federal constituency in Saturday’s by-elections in Kaduna.

Speaking at the event, the governor also advised politicians to stop relying on social media propaganda while vying for elections.

He added that political victories are secured through grassroots mobilisation and good governance, not online battles.

Gov Sani further criticised opposition parties for focusing on “Twitter (X) battles and Facebook noise”, adding that the APC’s emphasis on inclusivity and people-centred policies gave it an edge at the polls.

He said, “There is no ballot box on Twitter. There is no ballot box on Instagram or Facebook. Elections are won at the grassroots, not on social media.”

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, had mocked leading opposition figures in the country, following the poor outing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the by-elections.

Speaking on X after Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared winners of the elections, Onanuga shared a picture of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai with the caption: “How is the market now?”
