Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has publicly endorsed the senator representing the Western district of the state in the Senate, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

He made this known after the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced the lawmaker as its governorship standard-bearer at the state strategic caucus meeting presided over by the state chairman of the party, Chief Yemi Sanusi, held at the party secretariat, Abeokuta.

The meeting was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governors Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, and Ibikunle Amosun.

Others at the meeting included Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka (representing the Imeko/Yewa North federal constituency), and other serving and past members of both the State and National Assembly, among others.

Speaking during the meeting, Gov Abiodun introduced Adeola as the consensus choice to fly the party’s flag in the coming election.

“The decision reflects the collective will of party leaders in the state,” the governor said, adding that the APC had agreed on Adeola as the candidate “truly deserving” of leading Ogun State after his tenure.

He further expressed confidence in a smooth transition, noting his pride in participating in the emergence of successive governors within the party.

Meanwhile, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the cessation of her consultation for the APC guber ticket, following the announcement of Adeola as the consensus gubernatorial candidate.

While confirming her withdrawal from the race in a statement, she said: “I congratulate him (Adeola) and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration. To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey.

“Together, we move forward with patience, strength, and hope.”
