A two-year-old girl trafficked for N100,000 in Abuja in the North Central has been found and rescued in Aba in the South East, via the arrest of the suspected trafficker by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) confirmed the rescue was carried out on May 8 by its Abia command following the arrest of a suspected trafficker by the DSS.
A statement released by NAPTIP disclosed that the child – temporarily renamed Chiamaka Favour for protection – was taken from Abuja in February and sold to an undisclosed buyer in Aba.
“The suspected trafficker, arrested by DSS Abia and handed over to NAPTIP, is alleged to have worked with three trafficking syndicates from Abuja and sold the child to a buyer for ₦100,000,” the statement said.
Authorities have launched a national search for the child’s biological parents or relatives.
NAPTIP urged anyone with useful information to contact the agency immediately to assist in reuniting the child with her family.
