Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini has insisted that his decision to bench in-form Super Eagles striker, Ademola Lookman on Thursday night was not an act of arrogance or an experiment.
Lookman was surprisingly named among the substitutes by Gasperini in the club’s 2-0 Supercoppa semi-final loss to Inter Milan..
Charles De Ketelaere and Ederson were also not included in the starting line-up.

Lookman was later introduced after 56 minutes but he could not help La Dea win the game.
Speaking with Sport Mediaset after the encounter, Gasperini defended his decision to use the Nigerian international as a substitute, claiming he was not experimenting.
“I was not experimenting at all. We have many players, we had a long and tough run of games, the Supercoppa came at the right time for us to verify players who contributed, but played relatively little compared to others,” the Italian tactician said.
Gasperini went on to add, “We were up against Inter in the semi-final and it was the right time to try this.”
