Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, made a rare joint public appearance on Saturday as they attended the burial of Wike’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The event also saw the presence of suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and several other dignitaries, drawing attention amid the state’s ongoing political drama.

Their appearance together comes just days after a high-level peace meeting in Abuja, convened by President Bola Tinubu to address the prolonged political crisis in the state.

At the Presidential Villa, Tinubu met separately and jointly with Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and members of the Rivers Assembly in a bid to restore peace and political stability to the state. The reconciliation meeting followed the President’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, citing rising insecurity and a breakdown in governance, which led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire state legislature.

Following the closed-door deliberations, Wike confirmed that both factions had agreed to reconcile and collaborate moving forward.

“We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family,” Wike said.
