French referee, Clement Turpin to officiate UCL final in Paris

Clément Turpin has been a FIFA listed referee since 2010. He also joined the UEFA Elite group referees in 2012

UEFA, the governing body of European football, and the umbrella organisation for 55 national associations has confirmed the referee who will officiate the Champions League final.

The final will take place on May 28 in Paris at the Stade de France, with Premier League giants, Liverpool facing La Liga champions, Real Madrid.

The European football body on Wednesday picked French referee, Clement Turpin, to oversee the eagerly anticipated Champions League final clash. 

Liverpool reached the final of the competition after eliminating La Liga outfit and the reigning Europa Champions, Villarreal at the semi-final stage of the competition.

Real Madrid on the other hand avenged Villarreals’ defeat by a Premier League side when they knocked out Manchester City from the tournament at the same stage.

Clement Turpin who will take charge of the final was born on May 16, 1982, and has been a FIFA listed referee since 2010. He also joined the UEFA Elite group referees in 2012.

In May 2016, he was named the best French referee by the French Football Federation. The same year he officiated at the UEFA Euro 2016 in France.

He was in charge of the 2021 UEFA Europa League Final between Villarreal and Manchester United.
