Activist Adetoun adamant she won’t blur child’s face or take down video

Online activist Adetoun is adamant that said she will not blur the face of a young girl or remove the viral video of the girl and her mother that sparked widespread reactions last week.
She explained that blurring the child’s identity would have reduced the impact of the video and possibly denied her the assistance she later received.
In the video, the activist criticised the mother for bringing the child along for street-sweeping at 4am on Dolphin Estate in Lagos for which the woman is paid N19,500 a month.
Adetoun’s action elicited a huge backlash from netizens who argue that contrary to her allegation of child labour, the woman was only trying to provide for her family and at the same time infusing the virtue of hard work in the 11-year-daughter.
Despite the backlash, Adetoun insisted she has no regrets and maintains she will keep the video on her page.
“If I had blurred that girl’s face, the reactions that came to that post wouldn’t have come, the people that donated to her wouldn’t have donated and I’m never going to delete that video off my page, it’s never coming down ever,” she announced in a recent interview.
Some social media users praised Adetoun for her actions while others criticised her for exploiting the situation for personal gain.
