Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited has distributed palliatives to women in the transit communities of Egbema communities in Imo and Rivers states, respectively.
The company distributed the items on Saturday November 7, 2020 at Mmahu in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, in keeping with its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Items distributed to the communities included bags of rice, cartons of noodles, packets of bottled water and bags of salt.
The distribution of the palliatives followed the flood that had ravaged the transit communities in Egbema in Rivers and Imo States, such as Obiakpu, Obokofia, Mmahu, Umuoji, Abacheke, Abaezi, Mgbede, Ohuu, Aggah, Ase, Okwuzi, Ndoni and others.
Representatives of the oil firm at the event included Mr. Pramod, Base Manager, Prince Fortune C Ukwu, Community Relations Officer (CRO); Mr. Louis Jideofor, Chief Security Officer (CSO), Col Akama, Sir Chidi Mbachu and Chief Ebi Stanley, incharge of transit communities.
The Base Manager, Pramod, thanked the women for their patience as the event took off behind the scheduled time, noting that the company was glad no casualties were recorded from the flood disaster.
Also, the Community Relations Officer, Prince Chijioke Ukwu, said that the oil firm shared in their grief, adding that the company appreciated the peaceful and cordial relationship between them and the communities and assured that the company would always stand by them.
The CRO said that anything that affected the community also affected the company, urging them to ensure that peace continued to exist between them and the company.
“Your communities fall into our transit communities. This palliatives came from our oil exploration activities. If the whole community is overran by flood it will affect everybody. That was why we decided to be of help so as to ameliorate your pains and losses this period and to tell you that we are with you”, he told the women.
On his part, Chief Stanley Ebi, who is in charge of the transit communities and a community leader from Okwuzi Community, reiterated the position of the CRO and thanked the women for coming out en masse.
The women expressed their appreciation for the palliatives, saying that it would go a long way in helping them.
The Woman Leader of Mmahu Community, Lolo Ifeyinwoke Patience, said the women appreciated Sterling for its kind gestures, saying: “We appreciate you so much. Thank you for the palliatives”.
In a related development, Sterling Global Oil Resources Limited same day at Mgbala Agwa Autonomous Community, distributed COVID-19 palliative to Mgbala, Umukpo and Umuofeke Autonomous Communities in Agwa, Oguta LGA of Imo State, as part of efforts to assist the host communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Items distributed to the communities included bags of rice, cartons of noodles, packets of bottled water and bags of salt.
Prince Chijioke Ukwu and others who also represented the oil firm at the distribuction explained that the company decided to provide the palliative to assist the host communities to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which had necessitated a lockdown and disrupted economic activities.
The women who received the palliatives with joy also expressed appreciation to the company.
