As part of efforts to move the development of the game basketball forward in FIBA Africa zone Three, newly elected president of the Zone, Col. Sam Ahmedu (rtd) has outlined some of his objectives to include seminars and clinics for all stakeholders in the Zone.

FIBA Africa Zone Three comprises of the following countries: Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger republic.
In a chat with our correspondent in his office in Ikeja on last Thursday, the Zone President said that all hands would be on deck towards the game’s development in the Zone.
He said: “It will no longer be business as usual as we are in for a big task and that is to reposition the game of basketball in the zone.
“For a start, we are going to organize seminars, clinics among others for all stakeholders including umpires, journalists, coaches as well as players.
“We are going to use all available resources both humanly and materially to make the game an attractive sport that would offer tremendous benefits to stakeholders.
“Emphasis would be placed on the technical development of players, coaches and other administrators of the game in a bid to make the game more interesting.
“Media practioners would also be given training on how to make basketball reporting more in-depth”.
According to him, the new board would also provide opportunities for youths from the zone under the auspices of their national federations to take advantage of the youth programmes of the NBA, which includes basketball Without Bonders (BWB) West Africa Development Camp and other camps across the continent.
“We need to show commitments to the game we love by focusing on entrenching the principle of transparency, efficiency and accountability, while providing a framework that maintain an ethical culture through committed self-regulatory approach.
“We will also initiate and maintain cordial and active relationship with FIBA Africa and other FIBA Africa Zone boards”, he concluded.
