According to him, the recent 3×3 Tour was the first major event organised by the board, and subsequent tournaments will follow, in order to help develop the game of basketball in the zone.

He said: “The 3×3 Tour was the first of its kind in this part of the globe and the first major event of the executive board of zone after our inauguration in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, last October 2014.

“We are not going to rest on our oars. We have the good, bad and ugly sides of the 3×3 Tour tournament and we are going to improve on that, as well as correct the loopholes noticed.

“In the next few weeks, we are also going to unfolding future plans of the board as regards organising more tournaments for the players, to keep them busy and abreast with the latest techniques of the game of basketball.”

He assured of the zone’s commitment to take the game of basketball to greater heights in their areas of influence.

“I also want to assure all that our resolve is to strengthen the national federations in our jurisdiction to be self-sufficient and more proactive, in line with the new FIBA direction of new governance,” he added.

The FIBA Africa Zone 3 3×3 Tour was held in Lagos from June 18 to 21 at the National Stadium, Surulere.

Seven out of the eight countries in the zone participated in the tournament. They are Nigeria (host), Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

Niger Republic could not be part of the event because the country at the moment does not have a basketball federation.

The Tour, which was powered by the AMK Foundation, witnessed players taking part in the Under-18 Boys, Under-18 Girls, Senior Men, Senior Women and mixed categories.
