British pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has reacted to Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez’s outburst after his team’s 2-0 UEFA Champions League (UCL) defeat to Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils legend waded into the unfolding saga on Tuesday in a post he shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.

Martinez had criticised Man United’s board for failing to invest in the squad during the summer after the team’s defeat to Atlético Madrid in Spain.

He said after the European encounter: “We had a fantastic season last season, and now we expect more from the top, from upstairs, to bring in more players to compete because many teams have brought in many players as well.”

The Argentina international went on to take a direct swipe at technical director Jason Wilcox, saying: “I expect more from our technical director. I have to be honest.”

Reacting to his comments, Ferdinand opined that the player lost his cool and went into “full explode mode”.

He went on to say he would need time to make something out of the outburst of the Man United defender.

“Martinez has gone full explode mode… Need to digest this,” Ferdinand wrote.
