Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said a recent statement credited to Anambra State governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has ended “false narrative” that Fulanis are behind the violent crimes in the South East.

He made this known on Thursday via a post his shared on his X page, arguing that the claim is now “dead and buried”.

Fani-Kayode was reacting to remarks by Governor Soludo on those responsible for kidnapping and other crimes in Nigeria’s South Eastern states.

Speaking while addressing indigenes of Anambra State in the United States, during a town hall meeting in Maryland,  the former Central Bank Governor alleged that 99.9 per cent of those responsible for kidnapping and terrorism in the South East are Igbos and not Fulanis.

Prior to his assertion, groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) had claimed that Fulani and Northerners disguising as herders were responsible for most of the kidnapping activities taking place in the South East.

IPOB further claimed that these armed herders hide in the bushes and forests from where they attack communities in the South East.

However, Soludo dismissed these notions, stressing that Igbos are behind the terrorism acts in their region.

Reacting to the development, via his verified social media handle,  Fani-Kayode wrote: “Gov. Charles Soludo of Anambra state has said that 99.9% of killings and kidnappings that take place in the East are perpetuated by Igbos and not Fulanis.

“I guess that the false narrative that Northerners are responsible for all the terrorism in the East is finally dead and buried. Thanks be to God.”
