The 5th edition of the annual Eyoto Academy grassroots athIetics competition take off today in Benin city with over 700 young talents from 20 schools participating.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre, Chief Dr. Felix Idahosa President of of the Academy said, “Our goal is to provide an avenue for youth talents to have the opportunity to move further. We prioritize both academic excellence and athletic achievement, just like in the US, where students must excel in both education and sports to succeed.”
He reiterated that Eyoto Sports Academy is dedicated to supporting talented athletes who demonstrate dedication to their education and training.
“We support excellent athletics, regardless of their state of origin. We just want the best and promote youth development through sports.”
According to him, the tournament focuses on Edo South this year, with plans to include Edo North and Edo Central in future competitions.
He said the academy is committed to supporting students aged 11-13, providing them with training and resources to excel in their athletic pursuit.
With 700 students participating from 20 schools, the tournament promises to be an exciting display of youthful energy and athletic talent. The top 10 athletes will be selected to represent their schools in the competition.
The tournament will feature various track and field events, including the 100/200m, 4×100m and 4×400 relay. The top three winners will receive cash prizes of ₦200,000, ₦100,000, and ₦50,000, respectively.
While winners of individual races will attract N25,000 and N10.000 boys and girls
