Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has played down the influence of Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the Southeast, saying President Bola Tinubu will shock Nigerians with the votes he’ll get from the region in 2O27.
He made this known on Wednesday while featuring as a guest on Arise Television programme, ‘Prime Time’.
Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, won all the five South Eastern states empathically.
However, while responding to questions during the interview, Shittu stated that the much-discussed “Obi factor” will not affect the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

“And today, if you know the amount of votes that will be coming from even the South East for APC, you’ll be shocked,” the former Minister said.
The Oyo-born politician further added that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is gaining ground in the region, pointing to the influence of a key figure of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, whom he credited with swaying sentiment in favour of Tinubu.
“Even the people from the South East, with the efforts of people like Dave Umahi and so many others, a lot of people are getting convinced to come the Tinubu route,” Shittu added.
He also said how the incumbent president wins doesn’t matter, stressing that all he needs to do is win the election even if it’s with the slimmest of margins.
“It doesn’t matter. What is important is for Tinubu to win. Even if to win by 10 votes, I can assure you that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is going to win,” he further stated.
