Ex-Buhari aide, Bashir Ahmad, reacts to Davido’s dig on scoring 16 votes; says ‘APC primary was rigged’

Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has refuted allegations that he scored only 16 votes during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in 2022.
Ahmad, who is currently the National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response for the City Boy Movement, denied the widespread assertion on Friday in a post shared on his official X page.
Conversations surrounding the former presidential spokesperson’s failure to secure the APC ticket during the House of Representatives primary election in 2022 resurfaced on Thursday following his remark on the potential outcome of the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
Reacting to Afrobeat singer Davido’s celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the Osun State Government’s bank account, Ahmad said, “This tweet is bookmarked. It will serve as a reference for future events. I know you will come back here to lament if the August 15 results don’t go your way.”
Responding, the ‘Electricity’ hitmaker mocked the APC chieftain, claiming that he scored only 16 votes in his primary election and failed to impact the lives of his people while in government.
Davido wrote, “You got 16 votes, bro, in the primaries. STFU.”
In a follow-up post, he added, “You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency. You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident.
“You spent 8 years with the ex-president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty-stricken community.”

Clearing the air after the allegations made by the award-winning artist, Bashir insisted that no credible primary election was held, stating that there was evidence the process was rigged.
According to him, if the process had been credible, he would have won the election. He urged Davido and his supporters to refrain from spreading the claim.
“I feel it is important to say unequivocally that it is simply not true that I got 16 votes,” Ahmad said.
He added, “The reality is that there was no credible primary election in the first place.
“If there had been, I am very confident I would have been the winner. There is verifiable evidence of how the process was rigged, including videos and other materials that support my claim.
“Therefore, any figures being circulated by Davido, his supporters, or anyone else from that purported exercise are misleading and do not reflect a transparent, legitimate, or credible primary election.
“The full story will be told at the appropriate time.”
