Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra has said any injury to Arsenal defender, William Saliba will mark the end of the North London club’s title challenge.

Evra, while stressing the importance of the French defender to the team, also noted that the team lacks the required depth to effectively embark on a real title chase.

Saliba was one of Arsenal’s best performers prior to the World Cup break and that earned him a place in Didier Deschamps’ France World Cup squad.

Mikel Arteta’s men are currently five points clear of defending champions, Manchester City going into the second half of the Premier League.

However, Evra, while discussing the chances of Arsenal remaining top and fighting for the elusive PL title recently, argued that Arsenal need Saliba to stay fit or get a defender who is as good as him, to effectively compete.

He said, “My worry for Arsenal, even if I only want to stay positive for them, is the depth of the squad.

“Imagine if Saliba got injured, the impact he has on the team, if he was to get injured they would be done. So, they need another center-back.”
