Eunice Achimugu: Championing gender equity and ending patriarchy in Kogi politics
By Isah Jibrin Egbolo
It is often said that one cannot clap with a single hand. In the same vein, Honourable Eunice Achimugu embodies the values of equity, inclusion, and balance in her leadership style and interpersonal relationships. Through her actions, she has made a bold declaration of commitment to affirmative action in her native wards, consistently choosing love over hatred, unity over division, forgiveness over bitterness, and understanding over conflict.
Her words are carefully chosen to heal rather than hurt, and to encourage rather than destroy. Hon. Achimugu stands firmly against violence, discrimination, and every act that threatens social harmony and human dignity. She remains a shining example of tolerance, compassion, and responsible leadership.
A clear testament to her dedication was the recent Igalamela/Odolu Local Government stakeholders’ meeting held on 14th May 2026 with His Excellency, Ahmed Usman Ododo. The event highlighted her strong commitment to state recognition, political awareness, social inclusion, unfiltered unity, and robust support for good governance. Through these efforts, Hon. Eunice Achimugu continues to position her native area in alignment with government priorities, while working to avert divisive sentiments, falsehoods, and negative insinuations.
Hon. Achimugu has confronted gender dynamics head-on by consistently advocating for gender-equitable policies that promote social cohesion and the building of an egalitarian society. She rejects the elementary village mentality in running community affairs, instead championing sustainable development initiatives. Her profound understanding of her people’s aspirations and immediate welfare needs sets her apart.
She believes that leadership ineptitude breeds instability and that failing to take positive decisions can limit divine support. Hon. Achimugu holds that God stands with those who make principled decisions and remain committed to them. She also recognises that many socio-economic challenges arise from collective reluctance to support government programmes.
As someone who has studied public opinion on her activities, I can confirm that respondents across various locations describe Hon. Eunice Achimugu as an embodiment of love, unity, and respect for humanity. It is therefore not only relevant but imperative that we support her. After all, whoever tears the garment of honour wears the mask of disgrace.
