Emir condemns killing of final-year female Kwara student

Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has described the killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year female student of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin by suspected ritualist as “a regrettable act of wickedness.”
The suspected ritualist, Abdulrahman Bello, 25-year-old man who is said to be an Islamic cleric allegedly killed the 24-year-old student and cut some parts of her body and collected her blood into a bottle.
The incident happened in Ilorin where both the victim and the suspect were resident while the police on investigation arrested the suspect and recovered at his residence the two hands of the victim severed from her body, the collected blood, an axe and other tools he used in his operation.
The Emir, while speaking on the development, expressed sadness and tasked Islamic clerics in Ilorin to ensure that such a cleric like the suspect is not retained in their fold.
Sulu-Gambari, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Abdulazeez Arowona, said the incident was “most unfortunate, alien and regretable act of wickedness.”

He noted that “it has become pertinent for parents, guardians as well as people in the neighborhood to remain vigilant to happenings around them especially ensuring that their children and wards are in the company of people of tested and trusted characters with well-researched family background.”
He said that, “It is only hard work that pays, total war should be declared against idleness, laziness and unwarranted loitering around the society by youths in the name of finding means of survival.”
Sulu-Gambari urged clerics in the Ilorin Emirate and beyond to sanitise the system by ensuring that the likes of Bello are expressely exposed to the law enforcement agencies before wrecking more havoc and damaging lives of innocent persons.
While commiserating with the families of the late Lawal over the unfortunate end to her life, Sulu-Gambari urged the Nigeria Police and the judiciary to ensure that total justice is served in this matter.
The Emir, who doubles as chairman of the Kwara state council of traditional chiefs, charged religious leaders especially imams in mosques in Ilorin Emirate and the state at large to ensure that their Friday Khutbah focus more attention on morality, dignity in labour as well as importance and respect for the souls of fellow human-being irrespective of tribe, religion and status.
