Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, finally left Nigeria for India on Monday for medical treatment.
The couple departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 6 p.m. on a privately chartered aircraft.
This followed the order of the Kaduna State High court granting El-Zakzaky and his wife leave to undergo treatment at an Indian hospital of their choice. TheNiche reliably gathered they will be treated at Medenta Hospital, New Delhi, India.
Justice Darius Khobo, thereafter, granted the leave on August 5, adding that the IMN leader and his wife would be accompanied abroad by officials of the Kaduna State Government.
The order came after the couple had spent over three years in custody.
The court had ordered that they should be released by the Department of State Services to go for treatment and return for the continuation of their trial after their discharge from the hospital.
The IMN leader was accompanied on the trip by DSS operatives as ordered by the court.
Their trial is expected to resume as soon as they return from the trip.
