El-Rufai’s former aides accuse Gov Sani of fabricating corruption claims

By Jeffrey Agbo

Former members of ex-governor Nasir el-Rufai’s administration have accused Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of fabricating corruption allegations against his predecessor for political advantage.

In a statement, the ex-officials dismissed the Kaduna State House of Assembly report that claimed N423 billion was misappropriated under el-Rufai’s leadership. They argued that since no concrete evidence supports the allegation, the government is merely engaging in media propaganda to create the illusion of wrongdoing.

The former aides asserted that Sani’s administration is using these claims to tarnish el-Rufai’s political reputation while simultaneously taking credit for projects initiated during his tenure. They pointed to initiatives such as AGILE-funded schools, World Bank CARES infrastructure projects, and RAAMP-funded roads, which they say were executed under el-Rufai but are now being presented as Sani’s achievements.

Additionally, they alleged that Sani’s government is cracking down on el-Rufai’s allies, citing the cases of Bashir Saidu and Jimi Lawal, who are facing corruption charges and have been detained. They claimed the administration has even taken administrative steps—such as suspending land verification services—to prevent their release on bail.

“We will not be silenced. We will continue to defend our legacy and expose this smokescreen of deceit,” the former officials declared.

A version of the statement was also shared on Wednesday by el-Rufai on X.
