Eight suspects have been arrested by police over the alleged killing and secret burial of a newborn at Kwatam Private Hospital on Baga Road, Maiduguri in Borno.
The crime was disclosed on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region, who broke the other story on his X handle on Thursday that the family house of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was attacked by gunmen, which Natasha herself later confirmed.
Makama announced that the latest incident occurred at about 1pm on Friday after concerned residents raised an alarm on witnessing the people attempting to bury a baby on the hospital premises.
“Security operatives swiftly responded, cordoned off the area, and arrested all suspects involved in the act,” he said in the post.
Forensic experts were deployed to the scene and they exhumed the body of the newborn for examination.
The arrested suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation and a full investigation is said to be underway into the circumstances of and motive for the crime.
