Edo PDP Chairman, Aziegbemi regains freedom 11 days after abduction

Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi has finally regained freedom from kidnappers after spending 11 days in captivity. 

The chairman of the ruling party in the state, was on Friday, March 15, whisked away by his abductors, at about 11 pm after a meeting with the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The kidnappers later contacted his family to demand a ransom of N500 million for his release.

However, a statement signed by one Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi’s family, confirmed to journalists that the state PDP chairman has now been released.

He thanked the general public for the show of love and solidarity to the family throughout the unfortunate incident.

He said: “As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we say thank you all for your great show of love and solidarity with us all through the period of the unfortunate and ugly abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr Tony Aziegbemi for his unhurt release.

“Thank you, all…. We are most grateful for all your valuable contributions through prayers and steadfastness”

Also confirming his release, Senator Odion Ugbesia said he has spoken with  Aziegbemi after regaining his freedom.

Speaking on the phone he said: “Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory.”
