Editor of TheNiche, Emeka Alex Duru, bags PhD in History and Diplomacy

Executive editor/Editor of TheNiche, Emeka Alex Duru, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in History and Diplomacy, from the Department of History and International Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. The attainment marks a significant scholarly achievement for the versatile journalist.
Dr. Duru, who oversees editorial operations at TheNiche, is widely regarded for his robust approach to features write-ups and political analyses. With his weekly column, Open Copy, he simplifies and makes sense of local and international political events to readers.
His doctoral thesis, “The Press and politics in Nigeria, 1970-2023,” which analysed the interplay of the press and politics at governance and development of the country within the period of the study, was successfully defended on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Duru had earlier earned a Master’s Degree in History and Diplomacy (MA) from LASU, Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy (MALD) from University of Jos, Bachelor’s Degree, B.A (Hons) in History from University of Nigeria (UNN) and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), in History/Religion from Alvan Ikoku College of Education (AICE), Owerri, among other certificates.

Emeka, who hails from Orlu Town, Imo State, is a holder of the prestigious Nze title. He is married to Lolo Janefrancis Ijeoma Duru, PhD and blessed with children
