Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly arrested a high-profile ISWAP commander, identified as Sani Yusuf, in a village in Edo State.
He is the sixth suspected terrorist linked to the highly publicised attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in 2022.
During that incident, the attackers—who confessed to being members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)—killed at least 40 innocent worshippers.
Prior to this development, five other suspects, identified as Idris Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idris, and Momoh Otuho Abubakar, had been arrested and are currently being prosecuted.
According to NTA, Yusuf had been evading arrest for nearly four years, making him one of the most wanted fugitives in Nigeria.
A security source stated that DSS operatives, who had been on his trail for years, finally apprehended him in the Iguosa community, along Powerline in the Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State.
The source further noted that following the Owo church attack, Yusuf had temporarily fled to Kano before deciding to relocate to the quiet community in Edo State.
